ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2, 1989 , to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan enjoyed many games as a child but only started to play soccer when she was 14 years old. Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team and was awarded the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. In addition, she placed third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to work at Diamond Bar High School, where she improved her soccer abilities. She was chosen as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also played for state and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her very first season. She was instrumental in getting the team to the NCAA Tournament all four years and twice to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award and the first from her school to top the charts of Hermann Trophy finalists. Morgan completed her studies at Berkeley in the first semester of 2010 and was ranked 3rd among the top scorers of all time in goals, points and assists. Morgan juggled soccer careers at both the collegiate as well as national levels throughout her studies. Morgan suffered an ACL injury during her first year as an Berkeley player. She was not able to participate in training for the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April 2008. In Mexico Morgan scored her first international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, scoring four goals and getting her team the gold medal, in addition to other accolades.Morgan was then taken on by the national team's senior squad, in which she was substituted and scored a number of important goals. One of those goals was a victory over Italy that gave the U.S. team the final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team , and he was instrumental in leading it to victory against France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score either a goal or assist.
