Melanie Jayne Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey (born 16 May 1977)
is an New Zealand actress. She is well-known for humorous, soft-spoken, yet
tough characters. She works mainly in films that are independent. Her awards
include a New Zealand Film Award. A Hollywood Film Award. Sundance Special Jury
Award. Gotham Award. Golden Nymph Award. Critics' Choice Award. Screen Actors
Guild Award nominations. Lynskey made her debut in film as a teenage murderess
in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures (1994). After making the move to the United
States, Lynskey built an impressive career as a supporting actor in a number of
small- and big-budget features such as Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City,
But... (both 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000) and Sweet Home Alabama (both 2002),
Shattered glass (2003), Flags of Our Fathers (2006) and Away We Go!, Up in the
Air!, Leaves of Grass (2009), Win Win (2011) Looking for a Wallflower (both
2014) Then They Came Together (2014) and Don't look up (2021). Lynskey was
nominated for the Gotham Award as Breakthrough Performer and received acclaim
from critics for her role as an unhappy divorcee in The Goodbye I Must be Going
(2012). This was a turning point in her career. Subsequent lead roles in Happy
Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The
Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm Not Feeling at Home in
This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018) and Lady of the
Manor (2021) have established her as an influential figure in the American
independent film industry. Lynskey is also known for her character of Rose in
the television series Two and a Half Men (2003-2015). From 2015 until the year
2016, she played Michelle Pierson on the HBO series Togetherness and was
nominated for the 2015 Critics' Choice Television Award for the Best Supporting
Actress. She was the voice of Beatrice on the Cartoon Network's Over the Garden
Wall (2014) and Megan for Disney XD's Future-Worm! (2016-2018). She also
starred as the main character in Molly Strand, the first season on Hulu's
Castle Rock (2018). Rosemary Thomson starred in Mrs. America on FX (2020).
